Here’s hoping thousands of families step forward to adopt the babies born with debilitating birth defects discovered in amniocentesis, after the point at which abortions are now illegal.

Here’s hoping it becomes possible for families to afford lifelong care for the babies and mothers injured or disabled by disastrous high-risk births they were not allowed to prevent.

Here’s hoping the gynecologists and obstetricians involved in those births don’t get sued, driving up malpractice insurance prices and therefore healthcare costs for everyone.

Here’s hoping the partners and families of the women who die because of fatal complications from pregnancy each come to terms with the loss of a grown woman they loved because it was against the law for doctors to perform the medical procedure that could have saved her life.

Here’s hoping the idealogues who dreamed up the marketing term “partial-birth abortion” to replace the scientific term “intact dilation and extraction” are among them.

Here’s hoping November 2008, and then January 2009, comes sooner rather than later.
