There are things that only the great brush of mother nature is able to draw.

Since Windows Vista was launched today worldwide, I thought I'd share a couple of links that I've found on the internet and talk briefly about my experience with Microsoft, and the Windows Vista photoshoot last year.

general Finally!

We’re having our first snowfall of the winter. It’s very late. Last year it was December 4.

When it’s raining, you know it. You can hear it. It’s unmissable, especially because it comes with wind.

When it’s snowing, it’s silent. I love that. Every time I look up at the window I notice it again for the first time. It’s really coming down, and not a sound to be heard. Lovely.

general Despite what my laziness may have implied

we were NOT, in fact, left for dead in a dumpster in Boston.

Working from home feels very strange. I’m not having trouble disciplining myself, and I haven’t had to relegate work to its own (read: tv-free) room or anything, but the little hassles are starting to bother me. I’m really hoping familiarity breeds a lack of contempt as we go on and I learn to take things for granted.

In other news, I had a lovely conversation with some jackass on Stumbleupon yesterday and today. I’ve blocked him, so it’s hard to recall his exact words, but basically he told me if I was going to “try to be clever,” I should “research English grammar” so I could learn to use “apostrophie’s.” I wrote back and said I couldn’t even tell if that was supposed to be a joke. He said no, it wasn’t, and I should “utilise an English dictionary.”

I would like to have a copy of this dickhead’s dictionary, where plurals get apostrophes and “apostrophe” itself has a goddamn i in it. What a complete ass. People like that just piss me off to high heaven. It’s the same as the Silent Kimbly dude telling me dyslexia was an excuse for intentionally choosing to use a nonexistent word and saying it was the American spelling.

It’s simply bad judgment to be pedantic if you’re not actually a qualified pedant.

travel IM conversation

Deborah
my mom, as usual, has convinced me something horrible will happen

Elaine
what, between here/ny/boston?!
or IN boston?

Deborah
no in boston

Elaine
I JUST WANT TO BE PREPARED

Deborah
she was like, how are you going to get around, are you renting a car? and I said no, we’ll take a cab if it’s not nearby. and she says, in that OH SO ANNOYING WAY OF HERS, “well I guess as long as there’s two of you, you should be okay”

like in that way where her words say one thing but her tone says OBVIOUSLY YOU WILL BE RAPED AND LEFT FOR DEAD IN A DUMPSTER

Above and beyond “regular” presents like the Cinderella DVD, a book about the Muppets, and a copy of Hamlet in Spanish, Lisa did a Project this year. Join me, won’t you? I’ve put the picture on Flickr so I can put notes on it. You should click on it and go there.

Also, happy new year. Here is a brief video of the año viejo.

travel Photos from Sacramento

Just a couple highlights. Two of my favorites (“Giant Boat of Sushi” and “Baby at the Bar”) are on my dad’s camera and will be forthcoming. The photo page (linked above) is also up to date now.

This is the cool-ass rug in the Sacramento airport, as seen on Boing Boing.

This is Zinfandel Drive.

And this is my receipt from In-N-Out Burger. God damn, those are good.

I also went to Fry’s. Overall, those were the things I wanted to see and do, and I saw and did them.

If you go to the photo page you can also see our to-be-joined families, eight reasonable adults (well, seven; I took the picture) wearing stupid paper crowns out of the crackers. EVEN MY FATHER.
