family Forgot this part

Donald Beckett is the one in the center. The photo is dated January 15, 1944, and really was taken in Mexico. One of the other guys is named Bill, but I don’t know which one, and I don’t know the other guy’s name.

After a short but frustrating web search, I can’t identify the cross-shaped medal that the two guys who aren’t my uncle are wearing. I wish I knew some military-history nerds.

But that sure as hell looks like a Marine insignia, not Army, on the tall guy’s hat, doesn’t it?

(I feel obliged to mention here that a search on “Donald Beckett” comes up with, among many others of that name, a coal miner from Letart, West Virginia, who died in 1995 at the age of 43 and was survived by many family members, including a daughter named—and this is the good part—January Snow Beckett.)

The other photo, of the four nice old ladies (and the awesome guy with the white handlebar mustache in the background) is neither dated nor labeled. There are many others in that series, though, and some of them have names on the backs. I should scan them too.
